Dr. Gillian Bond is director of the Deaconess Studies at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, where she also serves as administrative assistant for the Specific Ministry Pastor (SMP) Program.
Bond has overseen the deaconess program since 2013. Before joining the Seminary staff, she served as a deaconess for two Illinois churches. She earned her master’s degree in religion and deaconess certification from Concordia Theological Seminary, Fort Wayne, Ind., and is currently pursuing her Ph.D. at Concordia Seminary.
Serving as a deaconess is a second career for Bond, who earned her Ph.D. in materials science and engineering at the University of Bath, England. She previously was a professor and chair of the materials and metallurgic engineering department at New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology in Socorro, N.M.
She enjoys playing bridge and traveling, especially to visit her son and his family in Oklahoma.
